The Railway Hospital in Perambur, Chennai, is inviting applications for the position of Senior Residents in its Cardiac Unit. There are four vacancies available for highly qualified medical professionals in the specialties of Cardiac Anaesthesiology, Cardiology, and Cardiac Thoracic Surgery. Vacancy Details
There are four available positions in the Cardiac Unit at Railway Hospital, Perambur:
- Senior Resident in Cardiac Anaesthesiology – 1 position
- Senior Resident in Cardiology – 2 positions
- Senior Resident in Cardiac Thoracic Surgery – 1 position
These positions are contractual, and the appointment does not lead to permanent employment with the Railways.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the Senior Resident positions, candidates must fulfill the following educational and experience requirements:
- Educational Qualifications:
- A Postgraduate Degree / DM / DNB in the relevant specialty from a university recognized by the State or Central Government.
- Alternatively, candidates with a Diploma in the concerned specialty can also apply.
- In cases where qualified candidates are unavailable, candidates with at least three years of experience after MBBS, including one year of junior residency in a government or MCI-recognized private hospital, may be considered for one year. These candidates will be required to undergo a fresh selection process at the end of the one-year period. The appointment may be extended for another year if no candidates with a PG qualification are available. However, the total duration of the Senior Residency will be limited to three years.
- Age Limit:
- Candidates holding a Postgraduate qualification: 33 years.
- Candidates with a Post-Doctoral qualification: 35 years.
- Relaxation in age:
- 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
- 3 years for OBC candidates.
- 5 years for PwBD candidates.
- The age limit may be relaxed beyond the prescribed age if no suitable candidates meet the age criteria.
Selection Process
The selection will be based on an interview conducted by the Railway administration. The selected candidates will be notified and appointed as per the terms and conditions mentioned in the notification.
Terms and Conditions
- Contract Duration: The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension each year. However, the total period of Senior Residency will not exceed three years.
- Termination: The contract can be terminated with one month’s notice or salary from either party.
Emoluments and Benefits
The pay scale and allowances for Senior Residents are competitive and as follows:
- For Senior Residents with a Postgraduate Degree:
- First Year: Rs. 67,700 + 20% NPA
- Second Year: Rs. 69,700 + 20% NPA
- Third Year: Rs. 71,800 + 20% NPA
- For Senior Residents with a PG Diploma:
- Rs. 325 will be deducted from the monthly emoluments.
- If a Senior Resident does not have a PG Degree or Diploma, Rs. 650 will be deducted.
In addition to the basic salary, candidates are entitled to several allowances:
- Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA): Included in the monthly salary.
- PG Allowance:
- Rs. 200 for PG degree holders.
- Rs. 100 for PG diploma holders.
- Dearness Allowance (DA), HRA, and Transport Allowance as per Central Government rules.
- Book Allowance: Rs. 1,500 per annum, provided in two installments.
Accommodation and Leave
- Accommodation: Free unfurnished accommodation will be provided, subject to availability.
- Leave Entitlement:
- 20 days of leave per year, which can be availed as 10 days in each six-month period.
- Senior Residents will also have one weekly off by rotation.
- No other types of leave, such as vacation leave, are granted.
Medical Facilities
- Senior Residents and their immediate family members (spouse and children) are entitled to free OPD treatment and inpatient treatment in emergency situations at Railway Hospital.
- There is no provision for referrals to private hospitals for treatment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Senior Residents will perform duties as per the requirements of the Railway administration.
- They will be responsible for specialty work, as well as other tasks related to national programs or emergency situations (such as railway accidents).
- Senior Residents are required to be on call duty for up to 12 hours a day.
- Private practice is strictly prohibited during the tenure of Senior Residency.
